Racing To Quench A Thirstier World

With the world population expected to grow to 8.1 billion by 2025[1], the global demand for fresh water was already set to be a huge challenge. But when you factor in climate change, aging infrastructure and contamination issues, projections for a 40% rise in water demand by 2030[2] seem increasingly likely. Given that 71% of all water withdrawal is for agricultural use[3], the potential shortage could have a huge effect on food production and trade.
