Set Up Recurring Transfers In Your Motif Account

18 January 2016 in Inside Motif

Getting started with recurring transfers is easy. Here’s a step-by-step how-to guide on how to get set-up in seconds.

1. Log in to your Motif account and from your dashboard go to the “Account” dropdown menu and select “Transfer Money”.

2. From within the “Online Transfer (ACH)” secondary navigation click on “Set up as a recurring deposit” from within the “Deposit Funds” tab. If you’re looking to set up a recurring withdrawal click on the “Withdraw Funds” tab and you will see a similar option to “Set up as a recurring withdrawal”.

3. On this page you can specify your recurring deposit or withdrawal criteria. Select the appropriate linked bank account to deposit from or withdraw to, type in the amount and first deposit/withdrawal date, select the frequency of the recurring transfer in the dropdown, and finally indicate how long you want the recurring transfer to be active. Click the “Save Recurring Deposit” or “Save Recurring Withdrawal” button to complete the transaction.

4. Once you’ve set up a recurring transfer you’ll see a record of all active recurring deposits and withdrawals in two separate tables at the bottom of the page.

From here you can select an active recurring transfer to either edit or cancel.

If you select “cancel” you’ll have the option to cancel a single scheduled transfer (up to three upcoming scheduled transfers) or the entire series.

If you select “edit” you can edit and update any of the original criteria.

Great but not useful until I can automatically purchase a Motif at the same time.

That is true.. It is not particularly useful until you can automatically invest new money in an already purchased motif…

Completely agree — I’m bought into the idea of motif investing 100% — however, I won’t move the majority of my accounts until dividend reinvestment is available. Additionally, the feature of auto-recurring deposits is cool, but what would make it a “slam dunk” is if you could auto-invest that deposit within a specific motif.

And, the cheapest stock/ETF within the motif.

Great addition to the website! Would love to see the ability to automatically deposit into the motif directly though, similar to a 401k. That would be ideal.

This would be useful if I could automatically “sweep” any cash balance at the end of the day, such as dividends received, from my Motif account into my associated bank account. Is this possible?

Ditto the ability to automatically funnel funds directly into a specific Motif in my current account. I have not yet transferred my Sharebuilder to my Motif account, simply because they have that feature.

I would love to be able to make a direct deposit to my account instead of the hassle of needing to transfer and waist a few more days before I invested.

We are already dealing with fractional shares, yet our dividends can’t be reinvested. It would sure be more useful to me to see my dividends reinvested and see some compounding action versus recurring transfers. Semper Fi.

Ditto all the sentiment. Moving cash is not the issue. Dollar cost averaging into a motif at a reasonable cost is. I also use sharebuilder and find it great they have this feature. $1 a stock to buy. Motif needs this feature if they want to enhance it to a point where it is worthwhile.

Would like to echo what the other commentators have said, there are two additional features needed to make this feature useful (and cause me to move money away from ShareBuilder and Betterment):

    1. Dividend re-investment. I’m surprised that this is still an issue in 2016
    2. Automatically invest into a motif with the option to rebalance at the same time

Is it $9.95 every time you dollar cost average? That adds up in cost quickly.
