John joined Ignition as a partner in 2005. He invests principally in business software and services. Prior to joining Ignition, John spent sixteen years at Microsoft Corporation in several strategic roles, including SVP of Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer, Vice President of the Worldwide Enterprise Group, and Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO). John is a board member of companies including Nike, AppSense, FiREapps, Scout Analytics, Datasphere, Korrio, Motif Investing, Splunk, Parse, Tier 3, Heroku which was acquired by Salesforce.com in 2010, and Xensource which was acquired by Citrix in 2007. John received his BA in accounting from the University of Montana, from which he also received the Distinguished Alumni Award.
